JHS Pedals JHSBENDER

JHS Pedals Bender Fuzz Pedal Instruction Manual

Model: JHSBENDER

1. Inngangur

The JHS Bender Fuzz Pedal is a tribute to the historic Sola Sound Tonebender fuzz circuit, specifically recreating the sound of a 1973 MK3 Silver/Orange "Onomatopoeia" version. This pedal offers a versatile fuzz experience, from mild crunch to full aggression, utilizing modern silicon transistors for consistency and reliability.

2. Uppsetning

Before connecting your JHS Bender pedal, ensure your amplifier is off and all volume levels are set to minimum. This prevents sudden loud noises that could damage your equipment or hearing.

2.1 Aflþörf

The JHS Bender pedal operates on a standard 9-volt power supply. It can be powered by a 9V battery or a 9V DC power adapter. Ensure the power adapter is center-negative and provides sufficient current (typically 100mA or more, though the pedal itself draws very little current).

2.2 Tengingar

Connect your guitar to the "INPUT" jack on the right side of the pedal using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable. Connect the "OUTPUT" jack on the left side of the pedal to your amplifier's input using another 1/4-inch instrument cable.

3. Operating the Bender Fuzz Pedal

The JHS Bender features three primary controls and a "Mode" button to shape your fuzz tone.

3.1 Stjórntæki

  • Rúmmál: This knob sets the overall output level of the effect. Turning it clockwise increases the output volume.
  • Tónn: The Tone control allows you to sweep between bright and dark tones. This flexibility ensures the Bender works well with various amplifiers and guitars.
  • Árás: This is the distortion control. Turning it clockwise increases the amount of fuzz.

3.2 Mode hnappur

On the side of the pedal, you will find a "Mode" button. Pressing this button activates a unique "JHS Mode" which provides more gain and a mid-frequency boost. This mode is designed to help your leads cut through the mix. At higher Attack settings in JHS Mode, you may experience a slight gating effect depending on your picking dynamics.

3.3 Tone Shaping Tips

The Bender is capable of producing a wide range of fuzz sounds, from a middle-of-the-road crunch distortion to full-out aggression. Experiment with the Tone control to find sonic variations that complement your setup. This pedal is ideal for achieving classic fuzz sounds reminiscent of artists like Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, The Beatles, Mick Ronson (David Bowie), and My Bloody Valentine.

4. Viðhald

4.1 Almenn umönnun

Keep the pedal clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid exposing the pedal to extreme temperatures, moisture, or direct sunlight.

4.2 Power Supply Best Practices

To avoid unwanted noise (e.g., loud hiss), use a high-quality, isolated 9V DC power supply. If using a daisy chain, ensure it is connected to a reliable power brick with individual 9V/500mA hookups. Running on battery power can also eliminate power supply noise.

5. Bilanagreining

5.1 No Sound or Weak Signal

  • Athugaðu allar kapaltengingar (gítar við inntak, úttak við amp).
  • Ensure the power supply is correctly connected and functioning, or replace the 9V battery.
  • Gakktu úr skugga um að hljóðstyrkstakkinn á gítarnum þínum sé uppstilltur.
  • Staðfestu að þitt amplifier is on and its volume is set appropriately.

5.2 Unwanted Noise (Hiss, Hum)

  • Ensure you are using a high-quality, isolated 9V DC power supply.
  • Try powering the pedal with a fresh 9V battery to rule out power supply issues.
  • Athugið hvort snúrur séu bilaðar eða hvort truflanir frá öðrum rafeindatækjum séu til staðar.

5.3 Unexpected Tone or Gating

  • If experiencing gating, especially at higher Attack settings, this is a characteristic of the JHS Mode. Adjust your picking dynamics or Attack knob.
  • Experiment with the Tone knob to find a suitable frequency balance for your setup.
  • Ensure your guitar's pickups are passive, as active pickups may not pair well with some fuzz circuits, potentially causing clipping or loss of sustain.
